A microbiological analysis of the numbers of microorganisms of different ecological groups in planktonic microbial assemblages in some parts of the Sea of Okhotsk and Avacha Bay was performed. The data are compared with hydrochemical characteristics (temperature, salinity, BOD5, dissolved oxygen, Pmineral, Porganic, detergents). The microbial indication method was used for the rapid assessment of water pollution of the investigated areas. This study shows that the marine environment in Avacha Bay is subject to a stronger anthropogenic impact than the ports of Kholmsk and Magadan.

Key words: Okhotsk Sea, Avacha Bay, pollution, microbial indication.
