Strategy and methodology of the study of marine biological divesity

A review of the main global and regional international initiatives in respect to the inventory and monitoring of biological diversity is given. The current strategy of investigations of marine biological diversity is presented. The methodology is discussed of the inventory of marine biota at the regional level within the framework of long-term projects for the study of biological diversity in the West and North Pacific developed by the international organizations "Census of Marine Life," DIWPA, NaGISA. Updated data on marine biological diversity in the Russian Far Eastern seas are given.
